Things are fine. Perfectly fine. Until the moment a dark-haired, tattooed hottie with a snarky mouth walks into her life and tells her she deserves better.

Confident and boldly spoken, Cameron Green has always been the guy bad girls can’t get enough of and all the good girls want to tame. He’s lived a lavish lifestyle filled with drugs, women, and alcohol up until his destructive path finally caught up with him. Now Cameron isn’t sure what to do with himself or how to dampen the longing for something more festering inside of him since coming out of his drug-induced haze. But when he meets a doe-eyed girl who gets past his walls like no other, everything about him clicks into place.

Together the two learn there are emotions that hold within them all the power to control you…

But one thing June does know is the new guy at work is one to stay away from. Reece Day catches June's attention, even if she doesn’t want it. Reece has the uncanny ability to always get in the last word, to get under June’s skin, making her question what she really wants in life.

June quickly realizes that for the first time in her life, she finally has the chance to find herself.

Reece’s deep voice cut through my thoughts. “So, tell me your story June?” I glanced up to see Reece filling the last of the pepper shakers and moving on to the salt.
“My story?” My story. Not anyone else’s but my own.
“Yeah, your story. What’s the story of June Rosewood?” His gaze drifted up to mine, his face holding a look of curiosity, like I was a book he wanted to open, to discover what was written on my pages.
I shrugged my shoulder. “I don’t know. I don’t really have a story. I’m a typical girl trying to figure it out.” His gaze on me seemed innocent but it felt like it was more, like he was asking me who I was and I couldn’t give him an answer.
“I don’t buy it. Everyone has a story.” Every time he spoke, he had confidence in his words, not in a way that was cocky but like he was sure of what he was saying and wasn’t going to be affected by my attempts to brush him off.
I shook my head. “Sorry to disappoint, but my story is pretty lame and right now, in revision. No one would be interested in it.”
This time, Reece stopped filling the salt shakers and focused all of his attention on me. “That’s not true. I’m interested in your story. I want to know your story, even if it’s not perfect.”
His words threw me. “Why? You just met me and I haven’t been the most pleasant.” Understatement. Oh, and the whole “incident” from the first day. All strikes against me. “It doesn’t make sense.” His attention never wavered from me even when I went back to stacking plates.
“Maybe that is why I want to know.”
I laughed. “Because I was a bitch. Sure, that totally makes sense.”
“Honestly, I think it’s a front, only a superficial layer of your story, and it makes me want to dig deeper. And if you don’t know your whole story right now? That’s okay. I don’t mind hearing it in bits and pieces. Tell me a tiny piece of your story June?” By now I couldn’t focus on cleaning the table. I moved around the table and sat in the chair, only feet away from Reece. This man was different from anyone I had ever met. I felt like a mouth drawn to a flame. His features were handsome, one of the most attractive men I had encountered. His hair fell in his eyes and his lips looked inviting, all of it inciting me. But what really got me was his words. His words drew me in, even if the rational part of my brain was telling me to resist. He cocked his head and tipped his head, encouraging me to tell him something.
“I…” I couldn’t even figure out something worthwhile to share with Reece, to keep him interested in my so called story.
“Don’t think too hard about it. The first thing that pops in your head.”
“I like music.” It was true, music was a soothing balm when I needed a moment away from the frantic pace of life.
Reece nodded his head, like he approved of my answer, a content look on his face. “I do too. All right, a true music lover’s question. Which do you like better, the original Wonderwall by Oasis or Ryan Adams’ version of it?”  Reece pointed up the ceiling and as I tuned my ears in, I heard the Ryan Adam’s version through the speakers.
I laughed and this time it wasn’t one full of snark. “Is it bad if I say Ryan Adams’ version?”
He turned in the booth, facing me. “No, not at all. Why?”
“I’m all for the original, it’s a great song but Ryan Adams’ version is haunting and at moments demands you to listen to it, but then fades again into only soft sung words. Oasis’s version is like an orchestra and Ryan Adams’ has as much power in the song with only a few instruments and his voice.” I was surprised at myself, the passion I had just spoken with. I looked over at Reece for his reaction and saw his eyes roam over me.
“That’s beautiful.” It was soft spoken but his words crushed around me, the quiet of his voice leaving no room to hide from. I blushed as his words, amazed at what a simple word can do. He wasn’t calling me beautiful but it had been a long time since anyone had directed that word towards me. He continued on, easing the moment we just had, “I tend to agree with you. I actually heard the Ryan Adams’ version before I heard Oasis. I guess that version stuck with me more.”
“Where did you hear it from?”
His gaze went beyond me and for a moment he looked like he was somewhere else. “From someone who played a role in my story.”
He looked back at me and I sat there with nothing to say, though I suddenly felt pretty interested in his story.

Happy Book Birthday to Amy Maurer Jones' A ZEBRA LIKE ME!

Today is A Zebra Like Me's Book Birthday!

Maybelle Dawson longs for normalcy and belonging. Often misunderstood, she struggles with a rare disorder, labeling her a Medical Zebra.

Maybelle’s happiness and well-being threaten to slip through her fingers as she battles to take control of her life. She faces a never-ending battle on her journey to find love, courage and friendship in a world lacking acceptance.

With the guidance of her guardian angel, Maybelle finds her way out of emotional and physical isolation to discover lasting love and amazing friendships.

A Zebra Like Me is the story of one teenager’s battle with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a disorder affecting one in five thousand people.

About the Author

Amy Maurer Jones has been happily married to her own version of Edward Cullen for sixteen years. She lives in the small town of Tabor City, North Carolina (close to the North and South Carolina shore) with her husband Kelly and their two beautiful children, Olivia and Keaton.

Amy loves reading and writing Young Adult because she finds young people inspiring. She appreciates how teens are able to look at the world with a fresh perspective and willingly open their minds to the endless possibilities that life has to offer. She particularly enjoys writing strong heroines who face problems head on, learn, grow and mature into the type of people who do the right thing.

When Amy isn't reading and writing, she teaches high school theater arts and dance. To say that Amy has a flare for all things creative would be an understatement, just don't ask her to assemble anything that requires instructions or sadly, you will be out of luck!

The Giveaway
A Zebra Like Me is a work of fiction but Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and the message in this story are very real. I have EDS and I’ve learned to live with this disease. Sadly, much of my battle has been seeking compassion and finding acceptance from those who don’t understand it. My mission in publishing this book is two-fold.
1 – Awareness – I aim to educate people about Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. I’m a teacher and through my teaching I’ve learned the best lessons are learned in unexpected ways. I hope my readers will gain a better understanding of this disease through the fictional world I created for Maybelle. There are people like her all over the world. Some EDS patients’ symptoms are less severe than Maybelle’s, some are worse. You may know someone with EDS and not even realize it.
2 – Self Empowerment – I want other people with EDS to know they are not alone. There are support groups and resources online that can help you learn how to cope with this disease. Don’t give up on a normal life. Learn how to avoid injuries and the external hazards that trigger your issues. Find hobbies that are safe, fun, and relieve stress. Surround yourself with positive people and avoid or tune out the people who can’t or won’t support you. Take care of yourself, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Happy Book Birthday to Erin Danzer's INTO THE SPIRAL!

INTO THE SPIRAL by Erin Danzer

Seventeen-year-old Veronica “Ronnie” Lambert wants to get out from under her older brother’s shadow. When Ronnie gets a tattoo and then is struck by lightning, she suddenly finds herself able to see and hear things in shadows that don’t appear to others. Then Ronnie meets Gavin Clearwater, the hot new guy in all of her classes and finds out he can see and hear the same things she can.

Gavin tells her about the Spiral Defenders, a group of warriors that travels through space and time to defend the planets of the Spiral. After meeting the Commander of the Spiral Defenders and realizing his intentions might not be pure, Ronnie struggles between following her destiny to become a Spiral Defender and trying to regain the life she had before being struck by lightning.

Excerpt:

She looked and gave a little wave before turning to walk into her room only to find her way blocked by yet another guy. This school seemed to be crawling with hotties! This one was only a few inches taller than her, kind of short for a guy, with straight black hair and dark slightly slanted eyes. He wore black cargo pants, a black t-shirt that did nothing to hide his six-pack abs, and black combat boots. He looked her up and down and arched an eyebrow as he stepped aside.

“After you, Princess,” he said, making a sweeping gesture with his arm as he slightly bowed. Ronnie didn’t know whether to be appalled or to laugh at him and didn’t have time to make up her mind as their Homeroom teacher asked if they would be joining them today. Cheeks flushed, Ronnie walked into the room and sat in the first available seat. The guy in the doorway sat at the desk behind her and gave a small smirk that she pretended to ignore. Who the hell did this guy think he was? She looked across the room and smiled when she saw Shawn sitting in the back corner. He smiled and nodded when he saw her and her heart fluttered.

“Boyfriend, or someone you wish was?” the boy behind her whispered. Ronnie rolled her eyes. Her shoulders tightened as she tried to ignore him but he wasn’t going to be dissuaded so easily.

“Huh, well, if you’re not going to answer, then I’m going to have to guess,” he continued. “My guess would be that he’s not your boyfriend but you want him to be. Since you didn’t walk in with him, it makes me wonder if he’s even interested in you. What is he, an oblivious friend? Or does he not even know you exist? Is that what this outfit is for; so he will finally see you?”

Ronnie’s ears reddened and it took the last of her willpower to keep from turning around and telling him to shut up. She clenched her hands together on top of her desk, praying the teacher would call on either one of them just so he would stop talking. A million comebacks flashed through her mind, but she ground her teeth, knowing she would never say any of them. Despite her promise to herself to become her own person, she really didn’t know how to go about doing that. She thought it would be easy once she got the tattoo, but she knew she was failing. Even showing it off this morning, the little bit that she was able to, had taken more courage than she normally possessed—and she hadn't even had the satisfaction of Shawn seeing it.

Thinking about Shawn took her mind off the jerk behind her and she managed to tune into what the teacher was saying. Unfortunately, it wasn’t that interesting (all about locker assignments and hall passing times) so she tuned out as quickly as she’d tuned in, her mind wandering back to Shawn. She snuck another peek at him and was thrilled to find him watching her—or at least that’s what it looked like at first. He was actually looking at something behind her. She moved her head to get a better look and felt a tug on her hair.

“Stop moving; I’m almost done,” the guy behind her muttered. Ronnie spun around.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” she shrieked, unable to pretend ignorance anymore. She ran a hand over her hair and found a thin lock he had apparently been braiding. Her eyes narrowed as the rest of the class waited for his reaction. Even the teacher had stopped talking.

“I was bored,” he muttered. “And your hair is really pretty.”
