in which a piano makes a mile marker more meaningful

so, everybody has a favorite instrument they like to listen to. for some people, it's a shredding guitar, others, a kickass bass. there are drum fanatics who constantly act out their favorite parts, and others who go for the more elegant violins or quirky horns. but me? i'm a piano girl. i love me some songs that highlight how beautiful piano tones can be. it can be simple or complex, or even really just a harmonizing addition. but the best are the songs that make the piano the sole focus of the music. sure, there can be other instruments present, but they're only there to help the piano shine, not detract from it.

and that's what drew me to mile marker by amy seeley. this song is so sweet, so delicate in its use of the piano at times while also serving as as a steady pace to guide its story. and it's such a sad, wistful song - short in lyrics, but deep in meaning, lamenting the demise of a relationship. seeley doesn't treat her listeners like they're idiots, having to explain in excruciating detail exactly what she means. instead, she paints you a picture with her piano, allowing the song to become much more meaningful. i am very much looking forward to hearing the rest of the album this is off of.

if you stole from me
i blame myself
i gave too long
didn't i?
it's no mystery

the sun makes its course
by the eve across the sky
be, be, be just as sureItalic
i'll get up and wipe my eyes

i can see far from here
oh
