so, lauren doss, aka mechanical bride, a 25 year-old singer-songwriter from surrey, has an interesting musical background. along with studying for a musical degree, she once interned for hans zimmer's production company. movie buffs will recognize that name - zimmer has scored numerous movies, including the pirates of the caribbean movies and gladiator (which, to this day, remains one of my favorite movies scores of all time). this internship surely has led to the rich, cinematic sound of doss' own music, as exemplified by the haunting and quiet colour of fire.

doss likes to create a cast of intriguing characters for her songs, much like in a movie. included, obviously, is her moniker, the mechanical bride, who represents the relationship between a record player and the records they play.

her upcoming album, living with ants, will feature a collection of fables and tales that are rooted in fantasy escapism. colour of fire, the first song released so far, smacks strongly of the darker images and concepts behind little red riding hood.
