so, with spring finally here, i'm really digging the sounds that tahiti 80 is creating nowadays - funky hyper beats mixed with synths done right (passion pit, take note please). for those of you who are asking, who? tahiti 80 is an indie-french pop band who've been kicking around since the early 90's.

inevitably often compared with other french pop bands such as phoenix, tahiti 80 is simply likable. they're not breaking musical ground, nor are they reinventing it. they've got a very comfortable grip on their sound that translates over their body of work - poppy, predictable, and more often than not fun. the first song on their newest album released last month, defender, is an excellent example of this. it's got this great bass line that remains steady yet frenetic throughout, alongside a strong guitar line and climbing synths.
