flashback friday - a good idea

so, back when i was an undergrad, one of my very favorite albums was sugar's copper blue. i mean, i played this thing to death. i knew every single word of every single song. so whenever i hear one of the songs from copper blue, i'm immediately taken back to extremely hot days, equally hot nights, and the university of arizona.

sugar was indie god bob mould's second band - the first being, of course, the very excellent hüsker dü. formed in the early 90's, sugar went on to put out two albums (beginning with copper blue), plus an ep and a b-side collection.



copper blue was (is) really an ace album - i debated whether or not to post hoover dam or the slim (both of which i had massive music crushes on), but eventually, i knew i had to discuss a good idea. probably the most well-known of all sugar songs, it was also the song my friends and i played the most while singing at the top of our lungs. dark and twisted, it's about murder - a girl asks a guy to drown her (or at least, that's what he says). seems odd that this would be the lead single, especially since it comes across as a thrashing fun song, but - there it is. this is bob mould, after all, and no one ever accused the dude of singing the happy tunes.
