in which matt lowell sings of swan lake

so, matt lowell has been making the transition from singer-songwriter to indie pop lately through intricate instrumental parts and thought provoking lyrics. sounding a bit like a more cheery david gray, lowell, a graduate of the berklee college of music, has been extensively touring throughout NYC as well as finding his music in various tv placements.

swan lake, the lead single off of the eponymous EP, is a lovely song that feels both anxious, hopeful, and melancholy at the same time. lowell’s voice is just the right mix of gritty and smooth against the sweet backup vocals and building melodies.

here i am again
coldness of your breath
cabin of your mind
to take away your freedom
to steal away your time
to share your living pain
you can give me life

instead i'll go to france
instead i'll be in paris
instead i'll go to france
instead i'll be in paris
will you go now?
will you hunt me down?

it hasn't been the same
i need to say your name
i'm standing on the dirty x
diving in swan lake
to take away your freedom
i can share your living pain
and you can give me life

instead i'll go to france
instead i'll be in paris
instead i'll go to france
instead i'll be in paris
will you go now?
will you hunt me down?

you can give me life
