in which the head and the heart gets lost in my mind

so, the head and the heart recently offered up another free song to drool over, and friends, just like the rest i've heard from them, this is another pitch-perfect piece of americana.

back when i was an undergrad and hung out in bars and whatnot, there was this great thing called a jukebox (hee hee!) that played music. there was always a bitter fight over who got to control the jukebox at my regular dive (unfortunately the allman brothers fans seemed to win out a lot), but my friends and i had a thing for what we called the hoo-hoo songs. this pretty much included any song that had people singing "hoo-hoo" or "woo-hoo" or any variation on the theme. the rolling stones and eagles were faves of ours (plenty of hoo-hoo songs there!) - and nowadays, anytime i hear a song that has this kind of singing, i'm instantly transported back to standing in front of a jukebox while searching for the perfect songs to have fun to.

you're probably asking, what the hell does all of that have to do with this song? well, lost in my mind is a hoo-hoo song. and man, do i love it all the more for that. it's the kind of song that you can imagine road-tripping to, or hanging out with your friends (in your regular dive) while listening to jukebox gems, or barbecuing to. it's the kind of song that makes you appreciate music and how, sometimes, you don't need flashy or controversial to be listen-worthy.

have a listen. get ready to put it on repeat and wish that it could be on a killer jukebox.

put your dreams away for now
i won't see you for some time
i am lost in my mind
i get lost in my mind

momma once told me
you're already home where you feel love
i am lost in my mind
i get lost in my mind

oh my brother,
your wisdom is all that i need
oh my brother
don't you worry 'bout me
don't you worry
don't you worry
don't worry about me

how's that bricklayin' coming?
how's your engine running?
is that bridge getting built?
are your hands getting filled?

won't you tell me, my brother
'cause there are stars up above
we can start moving forward

how's that bricklayin' coming?
how's your engine running?
is that bridge getting built?
are your hands getting filled?
won't you tell me, my brother?
'cause there are stars up above
we can start moving forward

lost in my mind
lost in my mind
oh, i get lost in my mind
lost, i get lost, i get lost in my mind
lost in my mind
yes i get lost in my mind
lost, i get lost, i get lost
oh, i get lost
oh i get
